London Ambulance Service NHS Trust is the busiest emergency ambulance service in the UK with over 5,000 staff who works across a wide range of roles. Our service operates over an area of approximately 620 square miles across London based in 70 ambulance stations.
We serve more than eight million people who live and work in the London area. Our main role is to respond to emergency 999 calls, getting medical help to patients who have serious or life-threatening injuries or illnesses as quickly as possible.
However, many of our patients have less serious illnesses or injuries, and do not need to be sent an ambulance on blue lights and sirens. Often these patients will receive more appropriate care somewhere other than at hospital and so we provide a range of care to them, recognising that many have complex problems or long-term medical conditions. We also provide clinical assessments over the phone to more callers with less serious illnesses and injuries.
As an integral part of the NHS in London, we work closely with hospitals and other healthcare professionals, as well as with other emergency services. We are also central to planning for, and responding to, large-scale events or major incidents in the capital.

London Ambulance Service HCPC Paramedic Programme (Academy)

The London Ambulance Service HCPC approved Paramedic Programme enables employees of the Service to work towards eligibility to apply for registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a paramedic.
It is a “closed” programme that only accepts applications from eligible employees of the Service.

Please also view the provisional dates planned for the delivery of the programme (attached to the advert). Note that there is an intention to recruit to three cohorts, starting in March, May and July 2019.
Attendance at all taught elements is a requirement of the programme; if there are dates you cannot attend on these cohorts, then PLEASE DO NOT APPLY. If you have a preference for one cohort over the other this can be discussed at interview.
Please be aware this role is only available to Service employees who have successfully completed all aspects of an EAC/EMT programme, including any consolidation periods and associated assessments.
Other opportunities for progression to paramedic such as the Higher Education routes offered by St.George’s University and Anglia Ruskin University may be recruited to in the future. It is important that you only apply to the HCPC Paramedic Programme if you have no intention of pursuing these other opportunities.
Once you are enrolled on the Internal HCPC Paramedic Programme you will not be allowed to transfer to an HE programme if you change your mind, which is why it is important to choose which route you want to take now.
