London Ambulance Service NHS Trust is the busiest emergency ambulance service in the UK with over 4,500 staff who works across a wide range of roles. Our service operates over an area of approximately 620 square miles across London based in 70 ambulance stations. 

We serve more than eight million people who live and work in the London area. Our main role is to respond to emergency 999 calls, getting medical help to patients who have serious or life-threatening injuries or illnesses as quickly as possible.

However, many of our patients have less serious illnesses or injuries, and do not need to be sent an ambulance on blue lights and sirens. Often these patients will receive more appropriate care somewhere other than at hospital and so we provide a range of care to them, recognising that many have complex problems or long-term medical conditions. We also provide clinical assessments over the phone to more callers with less serious illnesses and injuries. 

As an integral part of the NHS in London, we work closely with hospitals and other healthcare professionals, as well as with other emergency services. We are also central to planning for, and responding to, large-scale events or major incidents in the capital.

Nurse Clinical Advisor, Clinical Hub

Emergency Operations Centre (HQ Site, SE1 and Bow Site, E3)

 Band 6 £31,878 to £42,046 per annum inclusive

The London Ambulance Service (LAS) NHS Trust is the busiest emergency ambulance service in the UK to provide healthcare that is free to patients at the time they receive it. Our service operates over an area of approximately 620 square miles, operates from 70 ambulance stations and provides an emergency healthcare service for approximately 10.5million people living in London, as well as to visitors and commuters to the capital.

Since 2000, the LAS has led the way in clinical telephone advice for patients who call for help but may not require the immediate dispatch of an emergency ambulance. The Trust places great emphasis on ensuring patient care is provided at the right time, in the right place, by the most suitably skilled healthcare professional. As a Clinical Advisor you will provide a full telephone based clinical assessment function and deliver a high level of service, supporting patients to access the most appropriate level of care including advice to manage their symptoms at home.

This is a rewarding but demanding position with job satisfaction derived from the knowledge that we are referring patients away from unnecessary Emergency Department visits towards more appropriate care in primary, community, or social care settings. 

Candidates will be registered Paramedics with two years post qualification experience. Candidates must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to undertake a high level of clinical questioning and analysis. Clinical experience within the last 6 months in the pre-hospital field/Emergency Department or similar setting is essential.

Successful candidates at shortlisting will be invited to attend an interview/assessment on 10th/13th July 2018. Please note no other dates will be available.

 Training is currently planned for Sept 2018.

Full attendance and successful completion is mandatory for the entire course.

Post course you will be required to complete a minimum of seven mentored consolidation shifts in either Waterloo or Bow Emergency Operations Centre (please note parking is restricted at both sites). These shifts must be completed within 4 weeks post course completion.

Part time applicants will be considered however a minimum of 24 hours per week (2 x 12 hour shifts) is required. It is not possible to do the training on a part time basis. The seven mentored consolidation shifts must be completed within 4 weeks post course completion.

Maintenance of clinical skills is essential for this role.

All applicants are expected to maintain appropriate patient facing time. The Clinical Hub is committed to assist with this and we are actively working on options that would guarantee Paramedics DCA and FRU shifts.

Paramedic applicants need to be able to undertake full operational front line duties. If currently on restricted duties candidates must be operationally fit within 6 months of joining the Clinical Hub.
