London Ambulance Service NHS Trust is the busiest emergency ambulance service in the UK with over 5,000 staff who works across a wide range of roles. Our service operates over an area of approximately 620 square miles across London based in 70 ambulance stations. 

 

We serve more than eight million people who live and work in the London area. Our main role is to respond to emergency 999 calls, getting medical help to patients who have serious or life-threatening injuries or illnesses as quickly as possible.

 

However, many of our patients have less serious illnesses or injuries, and do not need to be sent an ambulance on blue lights and sirens. Often these patients will receive more appropriate care somewhere other than at hospital and so we provide a range of care to them, recognising that many have complex problems or long-term medical conditions. We also provide clinical assessments over the phone to more callers with less serious illnesses and injuries. 

 

As an integral part of the NHS in London, we work closely with hospitals and other healthcare professionals, as well as with other emergency services. We are also central to planning for, and responding to, large-scale events or major incidents in the capital.

It’s an exciting time to join the multi-professional team of Clinical Advisors at the London Ambulance Service.

 

Using your experience as a Nurse, you will be able to provide a full telephone based clinician assessment and ensure our patients are signposted to the most appropriate level of care.

 

We particularly welcome Nurses from a range of clinical backgrounds, including paediatrics, community, gynaecology and end of life care. 

 

For those who are dual qualified registrants, with an adult nursing registration, the opportunity to work flexibly, can contribute toward your re-validation requirements (those with a dual registration as a midwife/mental health nurse/specialist community health nursing or health visitor wanting to maintain clinical skills as an adult nurse are also welcome).

As a Clinical Advisor you will provide a full telephone based clinical assessment function and deliver a high level of service, supporting patients to access the most appropriate level of care including advice to manage their symptoms at home.

Candidates will be registered Nurses with significant post qualification experience.

 

Candidates must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to undertake a high level of clinical questioning and analysis.

 

Clinical experience within the last 6 months in the pre-hospital field/Emergency Department or similar setting is essential.

 

Successful candidates at shortlisting will be invited to attend an interview/assessment on 21th/22th November 2018.

 

Please note no other dates will be available.

 

Training is currently planned for Jan 2019.

 

These dates are subject to change

 

Full attendance and successful completion is mandatory for the entire course.

 

Post course you will be required to complete a minimum of seven mentored consolidation shifts in either Waterloo or Bow Emergency Operations Centre (please note parking is restricted at both sites).

 

These shifts must be completed within 4 weeks post course completion.

 

Part time applicants will be considered however a minimum of 24 hours per week (2 x 12 hour shifts) is required.

 

It is not possible to do the training on a part time basis. The seven mentored consolidation shifts must be completed within 4 weeks post course completion.

 

Maintenance of clinical skills is essential for this role.

 

We recognise that having the opportunity to maintain patient facing clinical duties is important for our staff. Our Clinical Hub is committed to assist with supporting this across all our professional groups of staff.

 

Paramedic applicants need to be able to undertake full operational front line duties. If currently on restricted duties candidates must be operationally fit within 6 months of joining the Clinical Hub.
