London Ambulance Service covers an area of 620 sq. miles, serves one of the world’s most dynamic and diverse cities and is the busiest ambulance service in the UK. We handle over 1.9 million emergency calls from across the capital and attend more than 1.2 million incidents every single year as well as delivering a 24 hour NHS 111 Integrated Urgent Care Service in South East and North East London that we estimate will respond to around 1.4million urgent care calls by the end of the year.


We employ over 8,000 people who work or volunteer across London to respond to the health needs of over eight million people who live, work and travel in the capital. We work closely with our NHS partners and are commissioned by 32 clinical commissioning groups spread across 5 sustainability and transformation partnerships (STPs) and NHS England for our specialist services. We work alongside London’s hospital, mental health and specialist trusts, as well as the five STPs across Greater London.


In addition we work in partnership with the other emergency services, London’s Air Ambulance and London’s Resilience Forums to make sure we are ready and prepared to respond to major incidents and ensure we keep Londoners safe. As the only pan-London NHS provider we have a unique opportunity to play a leading role in integrating access to emergency and urgent care right across London.


By 2023 we will improve outcomes and experiences for all our patients by providing the right care to patients at the right time, and in the most cost effective way. This will mean up to 122,000 fewer patients being taken to emergency departments when their needs could be better met in a different way, and we will deliver significant efficiencies in avoided costs to the urgent and emergency care sector.

Are you looking for the next step in your senior clinical leadership career? If you are an experienced paramedic with substantial proven senior clinical leadership experience we are looking to recruit two Consultant Paramedic into our clinical directorate.

The London Ambulance Service NHS Trust (LAS) is a unique and complex emergency service network serving a diverse population and responding to 1.8 million emergency calls per year. Demands on urgent and emergency care providers across the capital are increasing, and the Trust is developing services for patients for whom care can be provided closer to home.

This is an exciting opportunity for two senior clinical leaders who are able to lead high quality clinical delivery across the Trust.

We have two roles we wish to appoint to:

  • Consultant Paramedic (Integrated Patient Care): 

This role will provide clinical leadership and support to our Emergency Operations Centre as well as the integrated urgent care services. They will lead and support clinical innovation in these areas ensuring best practice occurs that drives improvements in quality of care. You will need to work closely with stakeholders and the urgent care teams to implement and deliver of the urgent care system including, but not restricted to, special patients notes, NHS 111, clinical hubs and high volume users. The post holder will need to establish relationships, partnerships and networks to influence and improve the quality of care outcomes.

  •  Consultant Paramedic (Clinical Strategy and Transformation)

This role will provide clinical leadership and support to the Trusts strategy and transformation team. The role will provide clinical input into the Trust major strategic projects on behalf of the clinical directorate ensuring that potential risks and mitigations are identified and highlighted, including those related to clinical safety and quality and the appropriate governance is put in place. Spending half of your time in the strategy and transformation team and half in the clinical directorate this role will ensure our appropriate care pathways are developed through working with external partners and stakeholders ensuring a consistent approach.
