London Ambulance Service NHS Trust is the busiest emergency ambulance service in the UK with over 5,000 staff who works across a wide range of roles. Our service operates over an area of approximately 620 square miles across London based in 70 ambulance stations.
We serve more than eight million people who live and work in the London area. Our main role is to respond to emergency 999 calls, getting medical help to patients who have serious or life-threatening injuries or illnesses as quickly as possible.
However, many of our patients have less serious illnesses or injuries, and do not need to be sent an ambulance on blue lights and sirens. Often these patients will receive more appropriate care somewhere other than at hospital and so we provide a range of care to them, recognising that many have complex problems or long-term medical conditions. We also provide clinical assessments over the phone to more callers with less serious illnesses and injuries.
As an integral part of the NHS in London, we work closely with hospitals and other healthcare professionals, as well as with other emergency services. We are also central to planning for, and responding to, large-scale events or major incidents in the capital.

We are currently recruiting Trainee Emergency Ambulance Crew to join our New Malden ( South West London) course starting in June 2019. After training, you will be posted to one of the LAS sites across London.
Applicants need to have 1 year driving experience and a current manual driving license, valid in the UK, with a maximum of three penalty points. C1 category license if not already achieved, must be obtained and you’ll need the provisional C1 category on your license along with completion of the C1 Theory test before we can appoint you. We can provide an interest free loan for successful applicants towards their C1 practical training.
Our staff respond and provide excellent care for more than one-and-a-half million patients every year. Working for us is an experience like no other.
In return you will be working with very established and experienced team. You will receive hands on experience across the spectrum in the service, protected training and continued professional development through individual learning accounts.
We will also provide you with detailed induction which is tailored to your role.
You do not need a medical background for this role, but you will need to demonstrate your ability to work with people from all walks of life, handle stressful situations, be flexible in your approach and have basic computer skills.
You will commence with us as a Trainee Emergency Ambulance Crew on the Associate Ambulance Practitioner Apprenticeship Standard. For the first 27 weeks you will attend workshop based training to achieve the Level 4 Diploma as well as the Level 3 certificate in Emergency Response Driving and Level 2 Award in Ambulance Driving. On successful completion of these elements of your training, you will join as a full time Emergency Ambulance Crew Apprentice position delivering emergency and urgent care to patients and members of the public alongside experienced colleagues.
You will work as part of an Emergency Ambulance Crew or working alongside and supporting an HCPC registered Paramedic, or another qualified crew member in the provision of high quality effective clinical care.
For the first 27 weeks (15 weeks classroom based learning + 4 week driving programme + 3 weeks scheduled leave + 5 weeks operational placement. Please note - The number of weeks classroom learning maybe adjusted to accommodate Bank Holidays) you will attend workshop based training. This period of time will also include 4 weeks of driving training and 3 weeks of scheduled leave.
On successful completion of these elements of your training, you will join as a full time Emergency Ambulance Crew Apprentice position delivering emergency and urgent care to patients and members of the public alongside experienced colleagues.
During the following 13 months you will continue to be supported in your ongoing on the job training by your tutor and working colleagues. You will need to be recording your experiences and collecting evidence to demonstrate your growing knowledge and skills. You will be supported in this by course tutors.
During the initial 22 weeks training course you will receive a salary of £15,112 per annum plus an additional High Cost Allowance supplement (£3,659 per annum for outer London or £4,326 per annum for inner London) which varies according to the location of your training location. After this period your salary will rise up to £20,150 per annum plus HCA supplement and Unsocial Hours payment.
After training, and successfully completing the Apprenticeship your salary then rises with years of experience up to a maximum of £33,876 per annum inclusive.
Your exact salary will depend on your location and working pattern. Please note some of our training venues/ ambulance stations are based in Outer London sites. If you work unsocial Hours, they are in line with AfC Section 2.

Short-listed applicants must successfully complete all relevant assessments, in order to progress to interview. Driving and lifting assessments will also be part of this selection process.
Applicants are required to show evidence of achieving English and Maths to Level 2 (GCSE A-C or 4-9 grades or equivalent). Candidates without these qualifications maybe considered if they are able to demonstrate the other skills required of the role.
Successful applicants will be required to pass a 27 weeks training course, based on elements of the level 4 Diploma in Associate Ambulance Practitioner, including clinical knowledge and care, lifting and handling, and blue-light driving before progressing onto the rest of the Apprenticeship programme.
